April 2016 Update
Sometimes you just have to keep on keeping on. The number of grievances being processed continues to increase as your Representative remain committed to addressing contractual violations. The vast majority are being resolved at the lowest level and many are seeing grievance payments included in their checks on a regular basis.
This, of course, is not to say that everything is progressing perfectly; that will never be the case. In fact, there are some issues that are causing us some significant frustration. We are continuing our efforts at moving things forward irrespective of the obstacles in our path. I guess if you pound at it long enough, something is bound to give.
As everyone is aware, the National Union is currently bargaining with the Postal Service over the terms of the 2016 National Agreement. If you’re following the contract updates posted on the National website, you’ve read that the number of proposals exchanged has exceeded that of previous rounds bargaining. I’m not sure what conclusions can be drawn from this other than that the parties are engaged in thorough discussions. The 2011 National Agreement is set to expire on May 20th and I’ll be in Washington, DC shortly thereafter for a meeting to discuss the result of bargaining. I’m currently planning on setting up a General Membership meeting in mid-June to inform the Members of the issues involved.
