December 2018 Update
The peak season volumes are on the wane as we gear up for another busy year of contract administration. Our contract administration efforts will primarily occur on two fronts. We will continue daily contract enforcement on the floor, while working for the future by our participation in the contract negotiation process.
In this first regard, your Stewards and Officers will be continuing their efforts at MHA conversions, providing Member assistance, and processing an assortment of grievances. Of course, among these grievances will be the numerous filings which resulted from cross craft assignments as well as management performing Mail Handler work during the peak season. Thanks to everyone who provided us with statements during this busy time.
Concerning the negotiation process, your Local Executive Board and Local Union Council are close to finalizing the proposal that we’ll be submitting to the National Union. Again, thanks go to the Members and Representatives who provided their input. Some wrote proposals, some provided ideas, and some provided feedback or insight which helped us define a narrower context. This type of Member involvement demonstrates what a Union is all about.
As we move forward, I’m confident that our unity will continue to make Local 323 a Union in which we can be proud!
