August 2021 Update

As August and summer draw toward an end, the Members and Representatives of Local 323 continue to adapt to changing circumstances. The available MHAs have been converted and direct career hiring is underway in many facilities. Newly created duty assignments have been posted for bid. Although, some locations are experiencing hiccups and there has been at least one instance of resorting to the grievance procedure to seek compliance. New machinery continues to be installed and implementation of the Postal Support Annex is underway. To be sure, there’s a lot going on right now.

There are essentially no MHAs in the metro facilities as all have been converted. Many other locations are in a similar situation. Hiring continues and the Postal Service continues holding job fairs to attract additional employees. The job market is competitive, and this has resulted in turnover among new employees. Some quickly conclude that working for the Postal Service just isn’t for them. Please try to help our new Members when they hit the work floor. We’ve all been there and know how difficult starting out can be.

Changes to operations on the workroom floor are occurring in many facilities. In several facilities this involves new or updated machinery. The Representatives in all Branches are keeping a close eye on these changes. Management is moving forward with implementation of the Postal Support Annex as a facility under the umbrella of the NDC installation. The NDC Branch Representatives and I have attended several meetings regarding the ramp up and we will continue our involvement as things go forward.

This is an extraordinarily busy time for the Membership and their Representatives. I don’t expect things will be slowing down in the near future. This is a time for all of us to work together. The Representatives of Local 323 have shown their focus and commitment during times of adversity and I’m confident in their ability to address our current issues. Together we will pave the road forward.
